Beijing, China — The most expensive supermarket in the city of Guangzhou opened on Friday in the Chinese capital.
The Shanghai-based company, called Hong Kong World Shopping, said its stores will sell the most popular items such as meat, fish, vegetables, and cheese.
The stores are being opened in the area around the Shanghai Expo Center, which is known as China’s largest shopping center.
Hong Kong World has the largest number of outlets in China with more than 6,000.
Its new stores will offer “foodies and shoppers alike” the best products from around the world, according to its promotional video.
Hongkong World Shopping is the first Chinese shopping mall to open in Shanghai and the world capital, which has more than two million stores and is home to the world-famous shopping malls of Hong Kong and Macau.
It is a joint venture between Shanghai’s Taobao and Hong Kong-based Alibaba Group.
HongKong World’s new stores are expected to bring more than 5,000 jobs to Shanghai and around 20 million Chinese visitors annually.
