A 25-year-old South Korean man was killed and three other people were injured when a truck struck a pole outside a supermarket on Friday in the western province of Jilin, authorities said.
The driver of the truck fled the scene and did not cooperate with police, police said.
A woman was also killed and a boy was critically injured in the crash.
A statement from the South Korean Red Cross said the victim, surnamed Han, was a member of the family of a woman who lives in the area and was visiting relatives in the nearby city of Busan.
It said Han had been at a convenience store when the collision occurred.
He was taken to hospital but died there on Saturday.
Authorities said they were investigating why the truck was traveling on a highway near Busan’s central shopping area when it came under the truck.
“We don’t know how the truck collided with the pole, but it was traveling at a high speed,” Jang Yong-seok, a spokesman for the Busan municipal government, told AFP news agency.
According to police, Han was a resident of the area who had been visiting relatives, who were visiting the site of a recent road construction project, he said.
