LOS ANGELES (AP) The best-selling grocery store in Los Angelas is the chateaux at a sprawling mansion in the shadow of Disneyland, a former hotel with a history of violence.
A luxury-goods-and-beauty store, the château supermarket is the most famous supermarket in L.A. It’s also the only supermarket that serves all foods from scratch, as well as organic, fresh produce, meats, dairy and eggs.
The store is owned by the billionaire George Soros, a supporter of liberal causes and a supporter, among others, of President Donald Trump.
The store has about 20 locations in the region.
Morelia is a suburb of Los Angeles and the first major city to adopt a policy mandating that all stores must serve all foods.
Last year, Morelia approved a ban on all supermarkets selling dairy products and eggs, as it did in San Bernardino, California, and other major U.S. cities.
But in March, Morello’s became the first grocery store chain in the United States to ban dairy products on its shelves, as required by federal law.
In September, L.I.O.C. announced plans to add two more locations to its roster, including a larger location in the Beverly Hills area, where the chain has expanded over the past two years.
Morelia’s is the third-largest grocery store operator in the country.
Soros bought the chain in 2012 for $1.2 billion.
He has donated more than $1 billion to liberal causes.
According to the nonprofit organization Open Markets, the chain’s annual sales have grown by 17.5 percent to $1 trillion, while its profit has grown by 21.5 to $2.7 billion.
It operates about 1,200 stores in the U.K., France, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany, according to its website.
L.A.’s grocery-store chain also has an affiliate in Turkey, and the chain is expanding to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The chain’s CEO, Mark Miller, said the chain will eventually offer in-store groceries, too.
“I can’t tell you how many people have told me, ‘I can never go back to the store, I can’t go to the grocery store,'” Miller said.
Since the Trump administration took office in January, he has increased spending on food.
In March, he ordered $1 million worth of food items for the military, including $2,500 for a meal and $5,000 for a snack, according the Associated Press.
Trump is a vocal supporter of the Soros-backed American Civil Liberties Union, and has frequently praised his “big-tent” approach to immigration enforcement and national security, as the president has threatened to withhold funding from sanctuary cities.
In February, he pledged to “get tough” with sanctuary cities, including Los Angeles.
Miller said Morellos decision to ban all dairy products, including eggs, has “made a huge difference.”
“We’ve seen the impact of this ban on our store, our sales and our profitability,” Miller said in an interview.
